You may or may not be familiar with the premise of positive psychology, but you very likely have seen, read, or perhaps even own a positive thinking book or a stress management book. Stress management and positive thinking are two similar techniques that can help you to have a more positive experience of life. You might have noticed, in thinking about these two techniques, that neither of them requires any deep digging into your past; there is no intense, long-term healing process required before you can begin living a healthy, happy life. In fact, the only thing you have to do is make the effort to use the technique.

This is something that is very important to realize. There are many traditional psychological treatments that involve the patient dredging through painful pasts experiences, reliving trauma, or unearthing buried wounds of the past in order to heal their present self. This is not to say that healing is not a good thing, only that revisiting painful experiences and reinforcing negative lessons is something that only creates more of a presence of those elements in our lives. Are there cases where these issues need to be confronted so that a person can move on? Yes, of course. Is this something that the majority of us need to do? That is something for you to decide for yourself- would you rather engage your emotionally masochistic side in experiencing painful emotions, or would you rather activate a higher consciousness in yourself that chooses to embrace a positive experience, and one that helps you to grow as a person?

The most important thing to remember is that all of this is in your hands. If you desire to have a life that is full of growth, positive feelings and outlooks, rewards for your hard work, with plenty of energy and enthusiasm for life, then you should undertake the project of learning how to create that reality for yourself. The key is to learn the tools that work for you--via therapy or a positive thinking book--in manifesting this for yourself. There is no fix, no one thing that can be done to instantly create this, rather, it is a collection of keys that you can use to bring about the change you want to see. Think about it: if you can learn how to create a more successful, productive reality for yourself, why even consider the alternative?

If you have been wanting to change your life and wondering when that change will be made, then you are ready to start making that change for yourself.
