Many people want to make changes in their lives. I know this because it is part of my job to help people empower themselves to make these changes. Working in hypnotherapy, Boston has been a great place to live and work. It isn't that people here are more open to it than in other places; it's simply the community that I am a part of, and I like sharing my talents with others. It's a common answer to many people's queries. How many ads have you seen that are along the lines of "hypnosis: quit smoking!" Boston is much like any other city in those respects. How to quit smoking? Hypnosis. Boston to California, people are pretty much the same- they create their own realities, and they make changes or stay the same because that is how they desire things to be.

Many people wonder what hypnosis would feel like, and imagine that they could not be hypnotized. Others are fearful of being under hypnosis because they worry that they won't be aware of what is happening to them or going on around them, and this doesn't seem like a safe environment to them. Fortunately, these things are mostly misconceptions and the result of being uneducated about this particular healing modality.

Hypnosis (Boston residents, listen up) feels a little bit different for everyone. Most people experience the state of hypnosis as a very relaxed and pleasant state, some people also feel slightly euphoric. Some of the most commonly felt sensations include a change in breathing patterns (slower, steadier breaths), a feeling of heaviness or floating, a slight tingling or numbness, eye fluttering, increased awareness and deep relaxation. While some people experience 100% memory retention during hypnosis, and others remember very little, the majority of people remember at least 50% of their time under hypnosis. It is important to remember that hypnosis heightens your awareness, it doesn't deaden it. As for who can be hypnotized--anyone who is willing to be.

The reason that hypnosis works is because when in a person is in a more receptive state, they are able to be more open to suggestion. Hypnosis can also heighten memory, enhance personal creativity and act as a catalyst for healing. When hypnotized, a person can "come out" of hypnosis at any time they desire- simply by opening one's eyes, for example- there is no reason to fear being stuck in hypnosis or being dependent on an instructor to bring one back out. In fact, many people choose to practice self hypnosis. Weight loss (Boston to Florida, I've heard this one a lot) is one of the most frequently quoted causes of using self-hypnosis, followed closely by smoking cessation.
