Doggy clothing and accessories comprise a massive portion of the pet products industry. There is a reason for this, and that is simply that people are fanatic about their pets, and for some reason, take great pleasure in putting them in human-esque clothing and accessories. Now if this doesn't apply to you, and you are a normal pet owner who puts little more than a simple collar on your dog, then you are excused from any finger-wagging heretoforth. However, if you are one of those types who decks your pooch out in bubble skirts or tuxedos, I plead with you to simply make sure your pet appears comfortable in his/her get-up, and that you think long and hard about what the way you dress your dog says about you.

There is a cute little old lady who walks around my neighborhood pushing her shitzu in a doll stroller. And although I'm pleased to have that in my repertoire of slightly bizarre sightings, I find it quite ridiculous. Now I'm sure that this little old lady dresses Fu Fu, or Fluffy, or whatever the shitzu's name is, in little doggy tutus and pink ruffleneck sweaters. That same lady, however, would probably never be spotted shopping for NFL dog jerseys or NFL dog collars. On the other hand, a 300-pound ex-convict named Tiny with a doberman named Brutus is not likely to be seen purchasing a doggy evening gown. Rather, Tiny would be more apt to scope out the spiked dog collars, or perhaps even the NFL dog collars if he just so happened to be a sports fan.

The point of all of this as that, unless you are a big fan of irony, or maybe a little confused about canine gender roles (or your own, for that matter), then you probably dress your dog in accordance with their breed, their size, their stature, their energy level, and their sex. Coupled with these criteria are aspects of your own personality. Look how Paris Hilton dresses her dogs, and look at the pink and frilly motif in her line of doggy clothes and accessories--they are all scaled down versions of the types of things she would wear herself. Can you imagine what those poor little dogs must be thinking? At some point, we as a society of pet owners must draw the line between appropriate doggy wear and downright ludicrous doggy wear. I say stick with what's simple--a decorated bandanna, or even an NFL dog jersey. There's really no need to break the bank purchasing designer dog clothes--why not donate that money instead to an animal rescue foundation?
