Musicians trying to make it have various avenues open to them to pursue on their way to stardom. Many, in today's market, are choosing to go the route of the music social networking site. These sites connect musicians to other musicians, musicians to fans, and fans to fans. They can help music sales, boost concert attendance, provide valuable networks for people in all different levels of the industry and so much more. For some, the most important aspect of music social networks is the ability to provide a more personal connection for everyone involved.

What you give is what you get, and when a band can go above and beyond in keeping their fans up to date on the latest news, tour dates, and sound bites from the studio, their fans are prone to increased loyalty. Having a venue where fans can actually have interacation with a band can make a world of difference when it time to release that new album or book shows. It also helps to have the different fans connecting. Not only will this increase their participation in such venues, but it helps in the sharing of music. After all, you have to assume that if the fans are connecting over your music, they are connecting over other bands too, which means that the overlap means they'll be drawing more fans in to listen to yours!

Having tracks that people can listen to, and allowing people to buy album tracks along is also a great way to introduce people slowly. Many are hesitant to shell out for an entire album if they haven't heard anything on it, while others aren't always in a place where they want an entire album, but still want to buy a number of tracks. Even though it costs about two cents to produce a cd (yes, now think about that mark-up) artists still make very little off of that. Here's a way for artists to sell directly to their fans, without involving (and having to pay) production and distribution on the physical. If fans want a CD, there's likely not a one out there who doesn't have the technology to burn they tracks they've purchased, print out the album cover, and assemble it themselves. Some musicians have even taken to releasing entier albums solely online.

If you haven't yet created a place for yourself online, do so now. It doesn't hurt to be visible, so go and and link to all those fabulous places you can be found online- most any and all places will create a banner for you that you can place on your own website to link over to your profile on a music social networking site.
