Hendersonville, North Carolina is exciting place to visit and live. There are many things to do in town and in the surrounding areas, whether your interests are concerned with the natural world, the artistic world, or maybe you are just interested in a good time. At the center of it all is historic downtown Hendersonville-- The Downtown Association, established in 1988, promotes a wide array of shops, restaurants, and outlets for entertainment. Even live music performances called "Music on Main Street" have become an exceedingly popular event that is fun for the whole family to enjoy.

"Music on Main Street" happens each Friday evening in downtown Hendersonville from between June 3rd to August 26th, and each performance is scheduled for a two hour block from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. For inclement weather situations, concerts with either be postponed until 8 to see if the weather clears or will be cancelled altogether. There is never any charge for admission, so no worries about that -- bring a chair and relax with the sounds of music brought to you by the Township of Hendersonville. While you listen, you can even take the Downtown Hendersonville Tour that is so easy to follow because it is marked on all the sidewalks. You just travel north on foot from south Main Street and you can take in all the sights that downtown Hendersonville has to offer, which include not only beautiful architecture but also seasonal flowers and trees as you stroll down the serpentine road.


If you are willing to venture outside of town there are some amazing sights to see and much to do, from camping to hiking and fishing. Some local campgrounds include the Lake Powhatan Campground, which is a heavily wooded campground on the banks of Lake Powhatan. There are hot showers, restroom facilities, and swimming area available, as well over one hundred campsites to choose from. Another choice would be the Mount Pisgah Campground at a high elevation of nearly 5,000 feet. The campground is wooded and has several secluded paid sites. There are even separate tent and R.V. areas! All of this is within a short drive of Graveyard Fields, Sliding Rock, and the Bent Creek, Mills River, and Davidson River areas via the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway. In fact, there is even a campground at the Davidson River that features great fishing, including backcountry trout fishing on Cove Creek and trophy rainbow trout and brown trout fishing on the majestic Davidson River. The river is also perfect for family fun activities, like swimming, water polo, and tubing. All of these campground organizations have quite reasonable rates and excellently staffed services.


When visiting Hendersonville there is certainly something to tickle any fancy, whether or not the outdoors scratches the itch for entertainment or if you would rather enjoy a quiet evening of dining and music within the confines of town. From the Appalachian attractions of the surrounding area to the simple pleasures of a movie taken in at the local theatre, Hendersonville satisfies.
